Catching Up With an Old Friend Near Disneyland

Off with my wife to the Orange County Auto Show at the Anaheim Convention Center last week, we managed an hour or so for lunch in the mix and stopped at Mr. Stox.
The establishment, located on the main drag just east of Disneyland, has been around for about three decades and is the kind of place one rarely finds anymore. You know, cushion-y booths and chairs, roaring fireplaces (but not on this summery day), a huge wine list, a decent array of entrees and sides, and attentive service.
I hadn’t been to Mr. Stox since the 1980s, so I decided to revisit this old friend.
My wife had, from what I could sample, a very well made salmon salad while I opted for two appetizers. The Ahi tuna appetizer was fine but nothing I couldn’t do at home (and probably better), but the spinach salad with crumbled bacon dressing just didn’t cut it–too soggy and off-tasting.
Overall, though, dining at Mr. Stox is a nice, comfortable experience, and like all establishments not all the dishes hit home runs.
