In a manner of speaking, one can have mountains of fun at the Tunisian-Moroccan restaurant called Moun (pronounced moon) of Tunis is Hollywood. After all, you can eat all kinds of unusual concoctions and watch belly dancers.
I actually enjoyed both food and belly babe. Probably the most interesting treat was called Brik, which is an egg-potato mixture inside a kind of cripy puff pastry (pictured center, top, in the photo). The other interesting and unusual dish was B’Stilla (pictured center, front), which was also a puff pastry thing with chicken inside and sugar on the outside. Can’t say that I enjoyed that one too much because I’m not a chicken fan, but the sweet-savory contrast was interesting.
When I’ve been to the belly-dancing places before (even on a dinner cruise in Egypt), the women dancers have usually been on the voluptuous (weighty) side, but to my delight, the one who danced Sunday night when I was there with my wife and daughter resembled a non-Asian version of adult actress Charmane Star (someone told me about her since I would never frequent an x-rated site).
The cost isn’t bad. To get everything pictured, it costs $30 a head. I also ordered a $30 bottle of Moroccan red wine, which tasted fine with the food but rendered a powerful hangover the next day.
Again, the Moun of Tunis, and other establishments like it featuring belly dancers, are fun escapes that everyone, except the most prudish, I guess, should venture to at least once.
