Here it is not even Memorial Day, the traditional start of the summer grilling season, and I found myself out at the Epicenter in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., to watch the Class A baseball Quakes take on the High Desert Mavericks.
I wasn’t planning to attend, but I found an e-mail from the RC Quakes this morning announcing a rare 10:35 a.m. start time, so I ventured out.
Silly me. It was school day, and the place was filled with Middle School kids. They looked like they were having a great time, but I mainly sweltered in high 90-degree heat (maybe over 100).
Nonetheless, I was able to indulge in a Hoffy dog and a pale ale much before the sun rose over the yardarm, but what the hey?
It was a great start for the day.
