NapaCabs: Nice Selection and Wine Tastings Too

Someone at a BevMo wine tasting alerted me to a place in Chino, Calif., that also hosts Saturday afternoon wine events. I looked up the joint on its Web site called NapaCabs and headed out there this past Saturday.
I exited the 60 Freeway and headed south on Central Avenue for what seemed like forever. I [...]

Now, in my mental categorization of beauty, no female can be more beautiful or desirable than a Korean woman, and [tag]Kelly Choi[/tag] is a native South Korean who was reared in Virginia from a very young age and is now host of Eat Out: NY, which is aired in New York, obviously. And she was [...]

It’s great to pluck a restaurant out of the blue (the Zagat guide) and be not only pleasantly but wonderfully surprised by the result.
Such was my luck today when, hoping to find a waterside restaurant with good food for a wedding anniversary luncheon (mine) and finding that most such restaurants are closed for lunch on Saturday, [...]
Zagats Might Become Centimillionaires

I’ve seen Tim and Nina Zagat serving as judges on Iron Chef America, and they basically look like your average overweight, diabetic-prone middle-class white Americans who lucked into something without a clue.
I guess being clueless pays off. They now have their Zagat guide on sale, and expectations are for $200 million up.
I do have to [...]

Faced with my yearly physical today, and with a couple of hours to kill, I stopped in at McDonald’s to nosh and read the daily newspaper.
Of course, noshing in this case meant a McD’s Deluxe Breakfast with bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, English muffin, pancakes and potato patty. Throw in the coffee, and you’ve got the makings [...]

Carl Karcher, founder of Carl’s Jr., passed away of pneumonia yesterday in Fullerton, Calif. He was 90 and a true genius in the fast food world.
Karcher got his start by purchasing a hot dog cart for $326–$15 of his savings and $321 borrowed against his automobile. That was in 1941. He soon bought more carts.

No, I didn’t suddenly transform into the celebrity Iron Chef, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Actually, in Las Vegas for business, I figured I’d try one of the Iron Chefs’ restaurants, either Flay’s Mesa Grille or Mario Batali’s B&B. Since B&B doesn’t serve lunch, that pretty much left Mesa; however, [...]

Greed Takes Down Two High Flyers

Strange that it would happen on the same day, but not unexpected.
Years ago, when Krispy Kreme Donoughts started its massive expansion and was wallowing in new income, I thought to myself, "It’s just a matter of time before people get tired of extra sugary donuts and Krispy Kreme will find itself over-extended."
That happened fairly quickly [...]
