David Rosengarten’s Tastings: Copywriter Express

Now, I’m not saying I disagree with anything David Rosengarten writes in his e-letter called Tastings, but after reading the latest incarnation about il Buco in New York City, I have the distinct feeling that some Internet marketing copywriter has his hands all over it.

I deal with this Internet//SEO stuff everyday, and I can tell when something is written for the Web World.  It’s really expanded out and made to sound like a carnival barker’s pitch without the carnival.

Tastings seems to do just that, so even if everything inside is David’s thoughts, someone has taken the writing to that level where it is designed to…sell you something (though often subtly or even later on).

I don’t fault Mr. Rosengarten for this.  We all have to make a living, but I miss the guy who drooled over the perfect BLT on TV and never let marketing or e-commerce intersperse with his opinions.

Still, I recommend a subscription to David’s e-letter.  It’s good reading–if you stay between the lines.
