Food Network Contestant Tells Her Side of the Story
Posted on July 28, 2007
After I wrote another of my ascerbic assessments of something on TV, this time the just-concluded Food Network search for its "Next TV Star," the runnerup wrote a reply. It appears in the comments under yesterday’s posting, but since it might get lost there, I thought I’d reprint it here. It’s refreshing in giving the perspective of an actual contestant. Here goes. What follows is all in the words of [tag]Rory Schepisi[/tag]:
Hey there just to stand up for myself. I’m a graduate of the culinary institiute of America. I attended Johnson and Whales for Hotel Restaurant management. I have been producing cooking based shows for the past 6 years. I’m opening my second restuarant as we speak.
Now, someone who is not passionate about food does not base their life around it.
Each finalist was there to win a show. Not to just say “Hey I love food, I just want you all to know that”
There is alot of editing. You saw a story, that the producers wanted you to see. Remeber that.
Food is my life! That is all I know, to be honest I’m gettig sick of people thinking anything different due to the unfair editing of a few producers.
As for me being on 2 reality shows. The entertainment business is a tough one and if you can get a foot in the door, you shove it in there. I wanted my shows to be seen. The only open door for me was reality so I took it. Can’t fault me for trying to excel in my career.
Thanks thats all I have to say.

none of them were that good. i liked paul but he just could not calm down. amy will do fine.
reality TV can sure be a sham. we only see what “they” want us to see. i recently read about someone’s experience with “super nanny” and i was certainly disappointed to hear how phoney it was for these folks. sad. probably not easy TV to produce with so many ordinary untrained folks in the mix.
