Ripen Your Avocados

an avocadoI don’t know if you make [tag]guacamole[/tag], that dip for chips that is so popular where I live, but you’ve probably enjoyed avocados on salads and sandwiches.

The thing is, when you buy an avocado at the market, it’s usually not quite ripe yet, so what do you do?

I used to throw the ‘cados in a brown paper bag and leave them on a window sill for a day or two, but I recently discovered through some research that I was missing a crucial element. 

What, you ask?

An apple.

Turns out that the apple releases ethylene gas, a natural ripening agent.  Learn something every day.
