The Veggies of Summer
Posted on June 1, 2007
I was going to say “Fruits of Summer,” but since I live in California, that didn’t seem like a good idea.
Anyway, I always had this notion that in the Middle Ages in winter people were pretty much stuck with pulling beets out of the ground or hunting down a wild boar if they got hungry, which all of us do, so I looked up a list of fruits and vegetables by season.
My surprise?
I didn’t see beets listed in the winter. In fact, I don’t recall seeing them at all.
But June is broccoli month, George Herbert Walker Bush’s favorite month, no doubt.
