The Orange County Register asked Phyllis Ann Marshall, a restaurant consultant, to discuss the major food and cooking trends of 2006, and she came up with five, not that I agree with or understand all of them.

The first was called “global change” and didn’t make a lot of sense unless you whip egg whites. The second was “new equipment.” Nuff said–gizmos everywhere, but even with them stacked ceiling to floor in my kitchen and garage, I still do everything by hand with knives and simple utensils.

Now to three: Americanization (I would say fusion is more prevalent, but maybe that’s last year). Fourth was the use of locally grown ingredients by chefs and a partnership between growers and restaurants. Okay, sounds good. Fifth was healthful eating. Yeah, right, that’s why there are steak houses on every other corner.

You get the idea, but check it out here. Remember, I warned that this stuff doesn’t always make sense. They really need to develop their thoughts more, as I always preach in my writing classes.
